The technological developments of the past decade have transformed the way we learn and our ability to share information. I have spent over 15 years developing my understanding of user experiences and my intuitive skill in program and course design to create strategic learning and development solutions for online and hybrid learning environments, even exploring the use of games and VR environments for educational applications.
I have defined my approach to leading design teams on something said by a prominent creative director I worked with early in my career. She said that you can take a group of the most talented people you can find and put them in a negative environment – and they will produce nothing of quality.
It was with that thought in mind that I approached one of my more challenging projects, a MOOC called the Psychology of Political Activism: Women Changing the World by SmithX on edX. One of my key objectives in designing this course was to implement open source tools wherever possible, so Smith students created timelines of each of the 9 activists featured in the course using TimelineJS, an open source tool developed by Knight Lab at Northwestern University. The final Q&A session included renowned activist, Gloria Steinem, and our promotional efforts were done primarily through social media. This course was the embodiment of fulfilling learner needs and aligning with set goals, and focused on the design and implementation of human-centered, intuitive, impactful, learning experiences.
